Jugend ohne Gott
Felicitas Brucker stages Horvath's novel of a class turning on its teacher, tracing how one act of truth-telling infects a cold, brutalised system.
Why go
A schoolteacher testifies honestly in court after a pupil dies at a paramilitary training camp, and his small act of truth spreads consequences through a society ruled by performance pressure and emotional coldness. Director Felicitas Brucker adapts Odon von Horvath's 1937 novel with new scenes by Anne Habermehl, played by an ensemble including Thomas Schmauser as the teacher. It runs on the main Schauspielhaus stage and is recommended for ages 12 and up. Expect a dark, contemporary reading of conformity, complicity and moral courage.
