Mephisto
Klaus Mann's novel staged by Jette Steckel, following an actor who trades conscience for career under the Nazi regime.

Why go
A powerful ensemble drama for anyone drawn to serious, big-stage theatre with a political charge. Adapted from Klaus Mann's novel, it follows an ambitious actor whose triumphant turn as Mephisto opens the door to fame and to a Faustian bargain with a fascist regime, tracing how far an artist will bend to keep the applause coming. Thomas Schmauser leads a large cast on the main Schauspielhaus stage under director Jette Steckel, with live music woven through. It runs about three hours 40 minutes with one interval, and English surtitles are available.
