Munich Machine
Albert Ostermaier's sci-fi stage utopia in memory of filmmaker Klaus Lemke, staged by Ersan Mondtag with music from DJ Hell.

Why go
A wild, three-hour ride through Munich's past and possible future, told as a science-fiction fever dream: a weisswurst-shaped UFO lands outside the Bavarian State Chancellery, and the late "asphalt cowboy" filmmaker Klaus Lemke sets off with a band of aliens to work out what the city once was and might yet become. Written by Albert Ostermaier and directed by Ersan Mondtag in his Residenztheater debut, it mixes homage and a sharp reckoning with the city, driven by a live-wired score from DJ Hell and Benedikt Brachtel. Brigitte Hobmeier leads the ensemble on the main stage. Note strobe lighting and loud gunshot effects; it runs about three hours ten with one interval.
