Einfach schön? – Politisierung deutscher Volkskultur aus dem östlichen Europa
Archive material traces how dance, dress and ideas of authenticity shaped political identity from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Why go
The opening examines how supposedly simple folk traditions became tools of political identity and communication. Exhibits from the IKDE archive trace dance, dress and other cultural forms among German-speaking communities in eastern Europe from the 1920s to the 1960s, including continuities after 1945. Andreas Otto Weber gives the welcome and Jana Stöxen introduces the exhibition with a talk on authenticity and staging in folk-culture research. Advance registration is required; the building is step-free via the restaurant entrance and has a lift to all exhibition rooms.
